Construction Projects Wrapping Up As Central Bucks Preps For Grade Realignment

DOYLESTOWN, PA — School construction projects are scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the new school year and the implementation of the district's grade realignment next week.

At its August finance and operations committee meeting, Central Bucks School District officials presented a progress report on $70 million improvement projects at the district's three high schools and one elementary school.

The construction projects were needed to accommodate a shift to a new grade configuration, which will see full-day kindergarten implemented districtwide at the elementary level, sixth grade shifting to the middle school level, and ninth grade moving to the high school level.

Here's an update on the projects:

CB East

School officials are reporting that construction is essentially complete at Central Bucks East. Contractors are finishing final items, cleaning is underway, and new furniture has been delivered and is being placed throughout the renovated spaces.

The project included newly renovated instructional spaces as well as improvements to the library and entrance vestibule. Final inspections are planned, and the new spaces will be ready to serve students when school begins, district officials said.

CB South

Significant progress continues at CB South on both renovations within the existing building and on the school's larger addition, according to Superintendent Dr. Joanna Wexler.

Inside the building, six new classrooms have been created by converting former planning areas, with two new classrooms on each of the three floors.

Planning centers on the opposite side of the building have also been renovated to use those spaces more efficiently.

"Classroom spaces are our priority and are on track to be ready for students when school opens. Some minor finishing work in adjacent staff areas may continue," Wexler said.

Work on CB South's new addition is also progressing on schedule, with structural steel installation underway, said Wexler.

Unlike the interior work being completed for the start of the school year, Wexler said the addition is part of the next phase of the project and will continue throughout 2026-27, with completion planned for next summer.

Once the new Family and Consumer Sciences spaces are available in the new addition, existing areas will be renovated and expanded for special education classrooms.

Wexler said students and families can expect to see ongoing construction activity at CB South during the school year, particularly around the addition.

"We will ensure that construction is coordinated with school operations to maintain safe access and minimize disruption to students, teachers, and staff as much as possible," said Wexer. "We will also keep the South community updated throughout the year regarding the progress of construction."

CB West

Construction is nearing completion on two new building additions at CB West, where contractors are currently working extended hours while district Facilities staff and West administrators are coordinating work, cleaning, and making building preparations.

Plans are also being made to ensure there is time for teachers to access, unpack, and set up their classrooms as spaces become available, particularly if construction and cleaning continue close to the start of the school year, said Wexler.

The vast majority of spaces are expected to be available for the start of school, and CB West will open for in-person instruction as scheduled.

Two existing art classrooms next to the new construction are expected to require about two to three additional weeks of work. School administrators have plans to accommodate those classes temporarily until the rooms are available.

Some cosmetic finishing work in the new main lobby will be completed later. The new terrazzo floor will be installed and fully usable for the start of school, while its final grinding and polishing will be postponed until winter break. This will allow contractors to prioritize completion of the entrance, reception, security, and other areas necessary for the building to operate normally when students return, Wexler said.

Mill Creek Elementary

The addition and renovation project at Mill Creek is also wrapping up. Most construction is substantially complete, with final mechanical work, inspections, cleaning, and furniture placement underway. The new and renovated spaces are expected to be ready for the beginning of the school year.
