Distracted Driver Narrowly Misses Hitting Minivan: Bedminster Police

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A video posted by the Bedminster Police Department shows a close call by a distracted driver that could have ended much differently.

The footage, captured by a Bedminster Township officer, shows a truck pulling a flatbed blowing through a red light and narrowly missing a vehicle turning left on green. The driver later admitted they were looking at their cell phone, police said.

"It's a reminder of the risks we take when we allow ourselves to be distracted behind the wheel," said police. "Fortunately, the driver making the turn in this incident was alert and aware, slowing down just in time to avoid a potentially devastating crash. Their quick thinking and defensive driving skills undoubtedly prevented a serious accident."

Police said the close call "serves as a stark reminder of the importance of keeping our eyes on the road and our hands on the wheel. Distracted driving is a serious offense in Pennsylvania, and for good reason."

According to Pennsylvania's Paul Miller's Law, drivers who cause a crash while texting and driving can face harsh penalties, including fines and even license suspension.
