BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA – Buckingham Township has been awarded more than $3.1 million in state funding for its Cold Spring PFAS Treatment System.

The grant, awarded through the state's Pennvest program, was announced by State Senator Steve Santarsiero and State Rep. Tim Brennan on Wednesday.

The funding will help pay for the construction of an anion exchange resin filter treatment system for the removal of PFOS/PFOA at the Cold Spring Booster Station.

The site currently contains a control building for process piping, chemical feed, and booster pumping equipment. There are two above-ground water storage tanks southeast of the control building that contain 200,000 and 535,000 gallons.

The system will require a new adjoining treatment building due to lack of adequate space in the existing building. The proposed modifications include process piping alterations in the existing water booster station building, additional treatment influent and effluent yard piping, a PFAS treatment control building housing the PFAS treatment vessels, piping, valves and controls, and a process horizontal split case booster pump.

"Every Pennsylvanian deserves access to clean, safe drinking water, free from harmful contaminants," said Sen. Santarsiero. "This funding will help Buckingham Township remove PFAS pollution from its water supply, protecting public health and giving residents greater confidence in the water that comes out of their taps. Protecting our water is an essential function of our state government in Pennsylvania where clean water is a constitutional right, and I'm proud to support this important investment."

"Buckingham Township has been working to address PFAS contamination in its water system, and the state is helping move that work forward. This grant will help make the township's water safer and more reliable without putting the full cost on local taxpayers," said Rep. Brennan. "Safe drinking water shouldn't be something families have to worry about, and I'm glad to help support in the township in making sure residents can count on what comes out of their taps."

The mission of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) is to serve communities through capital funding for drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, non-point source pollution prevention and other related projects. PENNVEST funding aids communities to increase the health and safety of Commonwealth citizens, protect our environment, promote economic development, and improve water quality.
