BCFA Hosts Square-Foot Gardening Presentation
Learn how to garden intensively from a certified Square-Foot Gardening instructor during a program next week in Doylestown.

Learn how to garden intensively from a certified Square-Foot Gardening instructor on Wednesday, April 6, 7-8:30pm, at Doylestown Mennonite Church, 590 N. Broad St., Doylestown 18901. The program is presented by Bucks County Foodshed Alliance as part of its ongoing education series.
Square-foot gardening is the practice of dividing the growing area into small square sections, typically 12 inches on a side, to assist in the planning and creating of small but intensively planted vegetable gardens. Author and gardener Mel Bartholomew coined the term “square foot gardening” in his 1981 book of the same name, and the practice has gradually built a following as more people with very little space seek to grow their own food.
Wayne Brunt, a Master Gardener and one of just six instructors statewide certified in the square-foot method, is a retired teacher and coach and longtime vegetable gardener. Square-foot gardening enables him to plant earlier in the spring and to grow more crops in less space with minimal weeding.
