Busy Professionals Need a Break

More and more I look around and see parents and kids going on all 4 cylinders day and night… Sadly, it's even happened in my own life!

Why busy families should slow down:

More and more I look around and see parents and kids going on all 4 cylinders day and night… Sadly, it’s even happened in my own life!

Here’s a scenario:

Do you have children? Or perhaps grand kids? Did you ever notice when they start behaving “badly”, for lack of a better word? Your normally calm quiet fun loving little boy gets a Stop sign or red light at school? You immediately start wondering… What’s going on? And often times we realize they just need a break! A break from the chaos of too many after school activities. Free time to wander around and climb a tree in the back yard… Quite time that is unstructured so they can use their minds to imagine and create…

But did you ever consider this happens to you too?

Have you experienced a time, perhaps now, perhaps often in which you feel “sick” or cranky or have zero patience in line at the grocery store? (the term road rage pops in my head too…sheesh!)

Anyway, this was actively happening to me! I started feeling physically ill (not sick but blah), tired allllllll the time. It started affecting my mental acuity, my household, even my stamina…

I wasn’t always so good at listening to my body …

I started doing some research and discovered work done by Kim John Payne. He is the author of “Simplicity Parenting”. I came across a phenomenon he coined as “Soul Fever”. The author describes soul fevers as illnesses of the soul that are just as serious as a physical illness.

Its when our “soul” needs a break!

For kids, they often start misbehaving … For parents, well…lets just say they misbehave too!

The core concept here is to add simplifying techniques into our lives…

Here are a few options for you to consider to simplify your life:

1) Take a break this week and say no to an event or let the kids skip practice just one night!

2) Allow for some “unproductive” time. (I know what you’re thinking… Sacrilege!)

3) Clear out and let go of unused material “stuff”. The more stuff we have, the more we have to clean, pick up and put away! (Just sayin)

4) Delegate things that don’t really require your time. Then reinvest that time into your life for the purpose of “living” your soul’s purpose…
