Caring for Aging Parents

Caring for aging parents can place undue stress on you and your growing family. There are times that you may have considered acquiring some assistance to help you and your elderly family member.

But finding someone that you can trust to take care of your loved one the way that you would can be a challenging task.

There are many unique services that our caring staff at Task Complete℠ offers to seniors in our community. I wanted to be sure you had a better understanding of “what we do” and “what we don’t do”. Because through this distinction, you may come across someone who could truly benefit from our services and the unique ways in which we can support them and their families.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but I’m a Registered Nurse with over 21 years of working in the healthcare setting, several of those years managing a 50 bed unit in the nursing home. I was the nurse manager who would bring in my curling iron and “do hair” for our clients on Mother’s Day so that they felt “alive”, anxiously waiting for their families to arrive. I was the nurse manager who let my residents wheel my son up and down the hallway on their lap in a wheelchair. That’s the kind of persona I am at my core… loving seniors and being able to interact with them in a kind fun loving way. It is with those core values that we offer such personal, caring services to our seniors and their families.

• A Homecare agency.
• We do not provide personal care.
• We do not provide medication reminders.
• We do not assist with transferring from beds/chairs etc.

• We provide companion visits.
• We go grocery shopping for our clients.
• We clean out their refrigerator or heat them lunch.
• We change their bed linens and the litter box so they don’t have to bend over.
• We engage them in conversation and card games.
• We bring them “special requests” like a “sub” or “chicken soup” or a doughnut from their favorite bakery
• We give families a break!

Another specialty service we offer is bill paying and paper management.

In today’s high tech world, many seniors are fearful of computers, passwords and technology. A fact is that with many aging adults, they are often resistant to “change”. This being said, imagine what it takes for you on a daily and monthly basis to pay bills, balance a check book, complete insurance claims, or manage household maintenance.

It’s too much for many seniors to handle, especially when you factor in cognitive memory issues, arthritis, failing eyesight, and hearing impairment.

So inevitably, this responsibility tends to fall upon their children, the sandwich generation. But with ongoing needs in their own lives, raising families and working, this is a task that often gets overlooked.
