How can you help Hurricane Harvey victims? | From the Desk of Zane Moore

Every dollar raised will go directly to YMCAs serving the communities in Texas hit hardest by this historic and devastating storm.

We've all seen images of the devastation in Southeast Texas caused by Hurricane Harvey. It is times like these that the mission of the YMCA to support and serve communities in crisis is best demonstrated.

According to Kevin Washington, President and CEO of YMCA of the USA, "Many YMCAs in the region have sustained significant damage and are without power. Ys that are operational have become safe havens for the
stranded and homeless - a place where families and individuals alike can find electricity, a hot shower and a comforting environment."

Please consider making a donation to support the Y's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
Every dollar raised will go directly to YMCAs serving the communities in Texas hit hardest by this historic and devastating storm - and those Ys working around the clock to reopen so they can do the same.

Here is what we know about Ys in the region:

  • The YMCA of Greater Houston has sustained significant facility damage. Six facilities are flooded, and staff have been unable to reach two more facilities to assess their state. Thanks to the diligent efforts of staff and volunteers, 14 facilities—of 34—are open on a limited schedule and welcoming all community members.
  • Both facilities of the YMCA of the Golden Crescent in Victoria have been without power for three days and remain closed.
  • The YMCA of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur remains closed because all roads leading to its facility are flooded.
  • The YMCA of the Coastal Bend in Corpus Christi was without power for two days but is now open to the community.
  • The YMCA of Austin and the Kerr County YMCA, about 90 miles from San Antonio, are open and welcoming evacuees.
  • Other Texas YMCAs outside the eye of the storm stand ready to help in any way they can.

The Y's commitment to those in need is strong and determined in moments like this. Please, make a tax deductible donation right now to support the Y's immediate and long-term efforts in Texas. Your gift will be invested directly in the communities that need it most.
