'This budget has no fat': Easton's mayor calls for first tax increase in 19 years (wfmz.com) β Easton residents could see their first property tax increase in nearly two decades under Mayor Sal Panto's proposed 2027 budget, which adds 1 mill to the tax rate plus small sewer and trash hikes. City officials say rising healthcare, utilities, and fire overtime costs are straining finances, but emphasize there will be no layoffs and that the plan may change before final approval.

Additional ballot drop boxes and pop-up events set: Northampton County election update (wfmz.com) β Easton voters will soon have on-demand voting services at the Northampton County Government Center on Washington Street, plus a one-day pop-up event at Lafayette College on October 15. Bethlehem man helped fiancee accused of child sex crimes evade arrest: Cops (lehighvalleylive.com) β A Bethlehem man is accused of helping his fiancee, wanted on serious child sex abuse charges, flee Pennsylvania in a gold Lincoln that investigators say traveled east through Easton into New Jersey. FBI and local police tracked calls, surveillance video, and vehicle movements before charging him with felony hindering apprehension, while the woman remains at large with ties to several East Coast locations.
