Bear Spotted on Easton's South Side

Police search for bear cub seen Wednesday morning on Easton's Madison Street.

Easton's wildlife is usually limited to feral cats, squirrels and an occasional skunk.

But spent part of Wednesday searching for a bear cub spotted on the 200 block of West Madison Street on the South Side.

Lt. Matthew Gerould said the bear made its way from Madison Street down the hillside toward Canal Street, but officers "could not locate him...or her."

Gerould said bear sightings in Easton are rare, but not unheard of, noting an instance a few years ago where a bear took up residence on College Hill.
