FRANKENSTEIN, BY LUDWORST DEMONSTER (written by Rick Walton and illustrated by Nathan Hale)

Families familiar with the classic children’s book Madeline will have a good laugh together over this Halloween parody.  The shape and size of the book, the rhymes, and the illustrations are all spookily reminiscent of the original, and the better you know Madeline, the funnier this will be.

It begins “In a creepy old castle all covered with spines, lived twelve ugly monsters in two crooked lines.”  Naturally, the ugliest one is Frankenstein.  He torments Miss Devel, loses his head, eats the doctor who gives him a new one, and provokes jealousy in the other little monsters, who all want to lose their heads, too.

If you don’t know Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans, go ahead and borrow both books from the Easton Area Public Library, and settle down with a bowl of treats for some family fun.
