Easton Conquers Liberty, 4-1

Today's victory against the Hurricanes is significant for Easton, because the schools are two of the four competing for the division title. The Rovers set the tone in the first for the win, running the score up 3-0. Colin Case hit a triple, bringing in one RBI. Kevin Nemeth hit a home run – his first of the season – bringing in 2 RBIs.

Greg Butto singled in the first, and walked to base twice.

In the sixth, Steven Xiques singled. He scored Easton’s fourth and final run on a wild pitch. 

In the seventh, Liberty batted hits straight to Jon Bisci and Colin Case, who each made catches for outs. Justin Souders threw for a strikeout to make the final out of the game.

Souders, the winning pitcher, threw for all seven innings and allowed just three hits.

“All I had to do was pretty much throw the ball over the plate and let the guys make the plays behind me. It was a very good team effort today,” said Justin Souders, Easton’s senior pitcher.

Robert Bertolotti threw for Liberty, with Matt Albright relieving. Between the two, they tallied eight strikeouts against Easton batters.

Yesterday against Parkland, Nemeth hit four singles. Today he contributed a 2 RBI home run. How was he feeling at bat? Nemeth said, “More confident, for sure. Everyone tried to chip in and do their thing. [It was a big game], especially in division. It’s definitely the right step."

And what was the focus of the time-out talk with Coach Hess, with one out to go in the game? “Trying to calm down, especially after yesterday.. anything can happen, just try not to let it slip away,” Nemeth added, alluding to Monday’s battle against Parkland - which the Rovers eventually lost.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), Easton hosts Dieruff. The Rovers will celebrate senior day at the field: players and their parents will be honored.
