Easton Men Face Gun Charges in New Jersey

Two men stopped in Phillipsburg had guns, police said.

Two Easton men were jailed on gun charges in New Jersey last week following a traffic stop -- and foot chase -- in Phillipsburg.

According to the Warren Reporter, Trevand Grant, 28, and Brian Watkins, 30, were stopped for a traffic violation June 5 at the intersection of Heckman and Fillmore Streets.

Police say during the stop, officers noticed Watkins moving around the back seat. Grant had already been asked to get out of the car, and police asked Watkins to do the same.

Watkins got out and started running, but police caught him after a short chase, and later discovered he'd thrown away a Colt 22 handgun during the chase. Police also found a Glock 9mm handgun under Grant's seat.

Both men were charged with illegal gun charges, and sent to Warren County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
