Easton PD Promotes Three

Three long-time officers were sworn in to their new positions Wednesday evening.

Three Easton Police Department members were sworn into their new positions at the city council meeting Wednesday evening.

Lieutenant David Beitler, who has been with the department since early 1997, was promoted to Captain of Administrative Services.

Most recently, he has served the department in it's office of professional standards, said, adding that he has previously been a sergeant and lieutenant in the patrol division, and also has served on the department's accident investigation team, and in the criminal investigation section as a detective.

Sergeant Brian Hercane was elevated to fill Beitler's former position, Lieutenant of the Office of Professional Standards.

Hercane has served the department for 13 years, and will be leaving his position with the patrol section to fulfill his new duties. He is also a member of the department's canine corps and was named 2010 Kiwanis Club Officer of the Year.

Filling Hercane's position as Sergeant in the Patrol Section, will be Officer Daniel Reagan.

A member of the department since 2000, Reagan has experience in vice, patrol, neighborhood policing and criminal investigations, said Palmer.

He has been a recipient of the Kiwanis Club Officer of the Year Award, the 2009 Nathan Ogden Award, the 2009 Crime Victims Council Allied Professional Award and numerous other citations and awards, including for homicide investigations. He is currently working on a Master of Arts degree in criminal justice, according to a press release issued by the department.

Elected officials thanked the officers for their dedication and service, and congratulated them on their promotions.

On a lighter note, Councilman Jeff Warren also thanked them for promising not to plot to overthrow the government, a curious, but central part of the oath sworn by police officers, in addition to upholding the Constitution and carrying out their duties to the best of their ability.
