Easton's Rules For Sidewalk Clearing

With winter here, it's importantly to keep in mind the rules Easton has for snow removal. Here's a list of what you can and can't do:

• First of all, don't shovel your sidewalk until the city finishes plowing your street. "It is your responsibility to pile snow between the curb and sidewalk or in another appropriate area off of the street," the Easton website states.
• It's illegal in Easton to shovel or plow snow into the street from your sidewalk, driveway, or any part of your property.
• It's also illegal to save a parking space in front of your house "with items including but not limited to trash cans, furniture, barrels, barricades, etc."
• According to the city's ordinance, you have "eight working hours" after snow ceases to fall to start removing it from your property.
• The city encourages people to clear any fire hydrants near their property. And it says it's OK to work with your neighbors to remove cars from the block, and then call the city public works department to push snow as far back as possible to the curb.
