Easton School Board Elects New President

Easton Area School Board appoints new members as leaders at its reorganization meeting.

Two newly elected members of the Board will serve as the board's leaders for the next year.

-- both newcomers who won election last month -- were elected by their colleagues Tuesday night to serve as the board's president and vice president.

Fehnel replaces former president Kerry Myers, who did not seek re-election. Board member Tim Reilly had been the vice president under Myers. There were no other nominees Tuesday for either position.

Although they're new to the board, neither Fehnel or Rider is new to education. Fehnel spent 25 years on the Wilson Area School Board, 20 of those as president. And Rider spent years as an Easton Area educator, including a seven-year stretch as high school prinicipal.

This year's board is primarily made up of newcomers. Rider and Fehnel are joined by Frank Pintabone, Janet Matthews, Bob Arnts and Robert Moskaitis, who'd been serving as an intermin board before winning a seat in November. Rounding out the board are veterans Reilly, Pat Vulcano and Kerri Leonard-Ellison.

The new board has already made one change to the way it runs its meetings by including a section where it acknowledges district employees who are retiring. And the board may look at ending the five-minute time limit for public comment.
