Easton Seeks More Bike Rack Art

City Hall and the Easton Main Street Initiative are calling on artists to submit designs for more bike rack sculptures.

If you've spent any time in downtown Easton, you've probably seen those metal sculptures placed around the neighborhood.

They're bike racks, and now the city wants to add more to its collection.

The Easton Main Street Initiaitve on Tuesday said it's looking for artists to design three new bike rack sculptures for 2012, adding to the seven placed Downtown in 2009 and 2010.

"Artists are asked to submit a line drawing that is graphically strong and feasible for development into a functional bicycle rack," the initiative said in a news release. "Up to three design proposals per artist may be submitted, each accompanied by a cost analysis. Commissioned artists will receive a stipend of $2,000, intended to provide recognition and financial support to purchase materials necessary to successfully complete the project."

One sculpture will go in Riverside Park, one in Scott Park, and the third near the in .

We've included PDFs of the entire contest rules, as well as an application. The deadline to submit proposals is Feb. 13, with the city planning on unveiling the sculptures May 18.
