Easton Will Pay to Fix Hugh Moore Park Bridge

City council votes to spend $225,000 to repair bridge connecting Lehigh Drive with Hugh Moore Park.

Easton will borrow $225,000 from its general reserve fund to fix emergency repairs on the bridge connecting Lehigh Drive in West Easton to .

City council voted Wednesday night to approve repairs to the bridge, which is currently marked with detour signs.

In a letter to council, city Finance Director Chris Heagle said a "major structural flaw" was discovered in the bridge recently.

The bridge had been closed for repairs several months ago. City administrator Glenn Steckman told the Morning Call that at the time, there were no structural problems with the bridge. He said PennDOT thinks a metal bearing on the bridge locked during cold weather, damaging one of the two stone piers.

Drivers can still access the park by crossing the bridge at Glendon Avenue. The bridge at Lehigh Drive is closed to both drivers and pedestrians.
