Easton Wins at Allentown Central Catholic, 3-1

Hits, stolen bases, strong pitching and defense led to the Easton win.

Easton played to win tonight against Allentown Central Catholic at Limeport Stadium. It was their second time meeting Central this season, and this time, the Rovers came out winning.

Easton played to win tonight against Allentown Central Catholic at Limeport Stadium. It was their second time meeting Central this season, and this time, the Rovers came out winning.

Jon Bisci pitched six innings for the Rovers – six strikeouts – and tallied another win this season. Greg Butto doubled in the second inning, with Colin Case batting Butto home for an RBI.

Following a brief rain delay, the fourth was significant as Easton scored two runs. Zach Olah batted a single resulting in an RBI; Kevin Nemeth safely tagged home plate on a Central overthrow. Ian Hayden hit a fly ball, resulting in his out but batting in Mulrine for the third and final point of Easton’s offensive game. 

Sophomore Nick Beinlich threw relief in the seventh inning and preserved Easton’s lead.  Today’s final score was 3-1, Easton; their last meet with Central resulted in a 3-1 loss in Central’s favor.

For Central, Mike Makara had one double and one RBI. Jason Barthold threw for seven innings.

How did it feel to come out and win against a team that they had previously lost to? “Felt pretty good,” said relief pitcher Nick Beinlich, a sophomore.

“. . . I knew we had the confidence and we wanted to get revenge [for the loss] . We really had the eye of the tiger. We really wanted to win.”

Easton will play again at home tomorrow morning, for a non-division game against Massachusetts team Acton-Boxborough. They’re scheduled to meet Phillipsburg at Hackett’s Park Sunday night.
