Easton Woman Charged With Arson

Huma T. Khan, 26, of Easton, allegedly started a fire in her house with her family inside.

Easton police say a South Side woman had an argument with her husband Monday night and intentionally started a fire in her house and ran outside while her family was still inside.

Everyone apparently got out safely, but Huma T. Khan, 26, of 761 Mauch Chunk St. was placed in on charges of arson, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of children and causing and risking a catastrophe.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Jamie Luise, he and the city fire department were dispatched to the Mauch Chunk Street address at 10:45pm on a report of a dwelling fire.

He assisted residents in the removal of burning couch cushions from the front door and observed a heavy amount of smoke coming from the residence.

After the fire department arrived, Khan admitted she had an argument with her husband and intentionally started the fire, then ran outside while her husband, children and a friend were still inside.

The children’s ages are not given, but the complaint describes them as "young children."

Khan was arraigned Tuesday by on-duty District Judge Robert Hawke of LehighTownship. She was taken to the county prison after failing to post $75,000 bail.
