Ex-Easton Cop Headed to Court in Wallet Case

James Marcum, who resigned from the Easton police force after being accused of stealing a man's wallet, waives preliminary hearing Monday.

A former Easton police officer accused of taking a man's wallet is headed to Northampton County Court on theft charges.

James Marcum, Jr. waived the charge against him Monday morning in a brief hearing before Senior District Judge Sherwood Grigg in Wilson.

after the department began investigating charges that he held onto a lost wallet that had been turned over to him while on patrol.

According to police, the case began when a West Ward man named Edward Gibson lost his wallet. He learned from a neighbor that she'd found it and turned it into Marcum while he was on patrol. Police say Marcum admitted to a county detective that he found the wallet and kept the cash.

Marcum's attorney, Phil Lauer, declined to say whether his client would enter a guilty plea or enter the ARD program for first time offenders.
