Homeless Man Accused of Burglary, Writing 'KKK'

A homeless man faces charges after allegedly pouring paint all over a newly rented apartment in Easton and writing 'KKK' on wall, police say.

A homeless man, identified in court records as black, is accused of burglary and criminal mischief that police say included writing the letters “KKK” on the wall of an Easton apartment newly rented by others.

A juvenile male with the suspect was evicted from the Butler Street apartment about three weeks ago, the records say.

Police found the juvenile and the suspect, Cartrell Danzell Flucker, 19, inside the apartment not long after officers were dispatched Saturday afternoon. Flucker and the juvenile reportedly told police they needed a place to sleep.

The new tenants, meanwhile, found gallons of paint they left in the apartment the night before poured all over the railing, floor, walls, the stove and elsewhere. In addition to the “KKK” letters, they found the words “Enter here to die” written on another wall.

A criminal complaint filed by city Patrolman Jeffrey Pellegrino, who arrived about 12:20pm Saturday, also says:

--One of the new tenants at the apartment on the 1000 block of Butler Street said she had just gotten the lease three days before. On Friday night, she and a roommate brought over a “bunch” of gallons of paint and left them inside the apartment.

--A downstairs tenant left a “bunch of food” in the doorway as a house-warming gift. The tenants also put that in the apartment before leaving for the night.

--Arriving the next day, they found the paint poured all over the apartment along with the writing “KKK” and “Enter here to die". They also found the upstairs window painted over and food thrown around the apartment.

--A downstairs tenant told police she had checked the apartment the previous night and said it was secured and locked except for a window with a broken lock next to the side door.

--Police entered the apartment and found the two males in a back room off the kitchen. Patrolman Pellegrino remembered that the juvenile had been evicted from the apartment about three weeks ago.

--The teens told police they needed a place to sleep so they came inside. Pellegrino said the paint, which he said in the complaint “destroyed the apartment,” was still wet when he talked to the suspects, “so I can tell it had been done recently.”

Flucker was charged with burglary, criminal conspiracy and criminal trespass – all felonies – and criminal mischief and corruption of minors. He was arraigned later Saturday by on-duty District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth and committed to Northampton County Prison after failing to post $25,000 bail.

The records did not say if the juvenile was charged. And although Flucker is listed as homeless, another place in the records lists an address on the 1100 block of Washington Street – about a block away from the apartment.
