Man Assaulted Unborn Baby, Police Say

Andrew Stroud Jr., 31, caused pregnant girlfriend to fall on her belly, police say.

An Easton man is charged with aggravated assault of an unborn child for causing his girlfriend, who was 8 ½-months pregnant, to fall on her stomach last month, court records say.

The incident occurred Jan. 18, but the records do not say if the baby was harmed. They also do not say if the baby has been born.

The suspect, Andrew Stroud Jr., 31, of 1330 Washington St., C-21, was arraigned Friday night and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

The girlfriend told city Patrolman Eric Siegfried that Stroud – the baby’s father -- had returned home about 6pm when she grabbed a car door handle and attempted to open the door.

She said he looked at her then drove off, causing her to fall. She suffered hand abrasions.

She required medical attention for her injuries and a “medical evaluation” for the unborn child, Siegfried writes in a criminal complaint.

In addition to aggravated assault of an unborn child, Stroud was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. He was arraigned Friday night by on-duty District Judge Richard Yetter of Wilson.
