Men in Northampton County Check Fraud Case Headed to Trial

Two men accused in a checking cashing scheme that stole from Northampton County's criminal division are headed to trial.

Andrew White, 22, of New York City, was ordered to stand trial Wednesdsay morning, despite not showing up for his hearing before .

White, who has been free on bail since his arrest, is charged with theft, conspiracy, and forgery. When he failed to arrive for his 11:30 a.m. hearing, Elwell heard the evidence against him and ruled there was enough to send him to trial.

Prosecutors allege White was part of a group of people who cashed 38 fradulent checks in 2010. The thefts were noticed during an audit last year. 

One of White's co-defendants, David Weatherly, 23, also of New York City, was also sent to trial Wednesday. Defense attorney Brian Monahan said there's a good chance his client will enter a guilty plea, in which case the felony charges against him will be dropped.
