Man's Loose Jeans Lead to Drug Charges
Shamel Dixon was detained due to a fight, but was later charged with drug offenses, police say.
Shamel Dixon’s loose-fitting jeans weren’t the only thing falling down after police took him into custody early Saturday in downtown Easton.
At one point, court records say, the jeans fell down, but so did a glassine baggie containing marijuana.
Dixon, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who was detained because of his alleged involvement in a fight, was charged with possession or distribution of a small amount of marijuana. said the marijuana was for personal use.
He also was charged with resisting arrest – he refused to be handcuffed – and disorderly conduct, which was related to the fight.
A criminal complaint filed by Sgt. Salvatore Cucciuffo says Dixon ran from police around 2:05 am at Pine and S. Sitgreaves streets and was caught about a block away at Ferry and S. Sitgreaves.
Dixon refused to be handcuffed – he pulled his arms away and placed them “under his stomach.”
His jeans kept falling down while he was being taken to the city police station. At one point the bag of marijuana also fell out, the complaint says.
Dixon, who also was listed as “homeless” despite the Brooklyn address, was arraigned at 4:30am Saturday by on-duty District Judge Robert Hawke of LehighTownship and committed to after failing to post $8,000 bail.
