Police: Man Slashes Woman, Throws Bag of Oranges at Infant Son
Bag hits boy in head, police say; South Side man charged in Thanksgiving incident.

On Thanksgiving afternoon, a South Side Easton man allegedly slashed the mother of his children twice above her right eye and threw a bag of oranges at their 5-month-old son, hitting the infant in the head, police say.
Court records in the case involving Matthew Christian Cash, 24, of 720 Williams St. do not list additional details about the injuries sustained by the woman and boy.
The records say that Cash also was charged with puncturing and flattening a rear tire of the woman's four-door Kia.
Although the alleged incident occurred at the South Side address, Cash was taken into custody at 216 N. 14th St. in the city, the records say. The time of Thursday's incident is listed as 3:37 p.m.
A criminal complaint filed by city Patrolman Anthony Chaney also says:
—Chaney went to the Williams Street residence and talked to the woman, who was bleeding above her right eye. She said she and Cash were arguing when Cash threw the bag of oranges at the boy, hitting him in the head. The complaint does not provide additional details on the slashes above the woman's eye.
—The woman said Cash left the residence wearing a maroon sweatshirt, tan pants and white sneakers with black trim. She said he then slashed her car's tire. Cash stands 6-feet-4 and weighs 225 pounds.
—Chaney said he was returning to the police station to obtain a warrant for Cash when county 911 got a call from someone at N. 14th Street address. The person said he was Matthew Cash.
—The officer arrived at N. 14th Street and saw a man entering the building. He was wearing the clothes described by the woman. He took Cash into custody as Cash was coming down the stairs from the third floor.
Cash was charged with aggravated assault, a level-one felony. He also was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned Thursday night by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
