Police: Man Threw Blood at Officer. Nurse

A Wilson man was charged with felony aggravated assault after he allegedly threw vials full of his own blood at an and a Wilson borough police officer earlier Monday morning.

Leroy H. Chamberlain, 58, of 1600 Washington St., was being disorderly at the hospital’s emergency room, where he was getting tested for blood alcohol level, which prompted the uniformed response.

According to court records, the officer, Michael Potope, found blood sprayed on the walls and floor of the room Chamberlain was in when he arrived at about 2:40 a.m. When Potope walked up to the suspect, Chamberlain had a vial of blood in his left hand, which he tried to throw in the officer’s face.

As Potope took him to the police station to be processed, Chamberlain said to him: “I have hepatitis you’ll see in a couple months.”

In addition to aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, Chamberlain was also charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors. He was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
