Rare Book Expert to Speak at Lafayette

Michael Suarez's lecture will help celebrate Skillman Library's 50th birthday.

Noted rare books scholar Michael Suarez will give a talk next week at Lafayette College to help mark the 50th anniversary of the school's Skillman Library.

Suarez's lecture —"The Rare, The Medium-Rare, and The Well-Done: Thinking about Books, Microchips, and Libraries as the Skillman Turns 50" is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the library's Gendebien Room.

Suarez, the director of the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia, is a Jesuit priest who has taught at Fordham University and Campion Hall, Oxford University. 

In 2010, he was co-editor of the Oxford Companion to the Book, an acclaimed million-word reference work  book history from the invention of writing to electronic books.
