Work Release Inmate Attacks Easton Police Officer

A Northampton County Prison work release inmate was arrested after attacking an Easton police officer in a store.

Police responded to a silent alarm at a Downtown market this morning and one officer was attacked by a 25-year-old Northampton County Prison work release inmate.

Easton Police responded to a disturbance at the Easton Corner Grocery and Deli, at 357 Northampton Street, around 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Upon entering the store one officer was attacked by the man, who was subsequently subdued and taken into custody after a struggle, according to The Express-Times.

Two Easton police officers were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and evaluation, The Express-Times reports.

Police say the man was under the influence of an unknown substance. The man was sedated by a responding EMT and was placed on a stretcher in an ambulance. Minutes later, an EMT began performing CPR on the man, according to The Express-Times.

The man was alive as of 11:45 a.m. and will be facing criminal charges, police Lt. Matthew Gerould said. The investigation is continuing, according to police.
