Wrong Way Driver Lied to Officer, Police Say

A Wilson man who gave police a false identity after being stopped in January driving the wrong way on a one-way street has been charged, court records say.

Police say Anthony D. Foster, 24, “insisted” he was not Anthony Foster but “Angel Fonseca,” with a date of birth of Nov. 19, 1988.

Foster’s actual date of birth is April 9, 1988, police say.

They also say Foster was carrying a small amount of marijuana.

The traffic stop, according to a criminal complaint, was around 4:30pm Jan. 19, a Saturday.

Wilson Patrolman Steven W. Lindstedt, who filed the complaint, said he saw Foster drive a red four-door 2008 Ford Focus north – the wrong way – on S. 24th Street.

Foster turned right onto Sycamore Street. Lindstedt stopped him on S. 23rd Street.

Foster said he was “Angel Fonseca.” But the officer discovered his true identity and also learned he was wanted on a warrant issued by the county Domestic Relations department.

Lindstedt took the suspect to the county prison, where a small ziplock bag containing suspected marijuana was found.

Foster, of 2137 Freemansburg Ave., Apt./Suite 1, was charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities, possession of marijuana – small amount, and one-way roadways.

He was arraigned Friday afternoon by on-duty District Judge Robert Hawke of Lehigh Township and committed to county prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
