ALLENTOWN, PA — A 15-year-old Pennsylvania boy has died a month after he was seriously injured by a falling tree during cross country practice at an area park.
According to a GoFundMe created by his family, the teen, a Parkland High School student, was injured Sept.26. He was running along the 1300 block of Oxford Drive near Little Lehigh Parkway in Allentown when he was struck, according to NBC10.
He suffered immediate cardiac arrest at the scene, according to the GoFundMe, which has raised nearly $200,000 as of Monday. "Thanks to the extraordinary, quick-thinking emergency responders, CPR restored his heart rhythm before he was rushed to the hospital. But the full extent of his injuries is overwhelming." He also underwent emergency neurosurgery and was listed in critical condition, his family shared in the GoFundMe.
NBC10 reports the teen died Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest.
He was described by his family as "energetic, fiercely dedicated, academic, and deeply loyal to his friends and family."
