The Lehigh Valley Rollergirls’ (LVRG) Hissy Fits will open their 2013 season this Saturday at 6 p.m. when they take on the Ithaca League of Women Rollers' Sufferjets at the Independence Family Fun Center in Schnecksville.
Even though the two teams have never faced off before, the Hissy Fits will be entering this bout as the underdogs according to flattrackstats.com, an independent flat track roller derby ranking site.
“This game is going to test our strength, our knowledge of the game, and shear willingness to prevail despite adversity. It will surely be an epic battle of David vs. Goliath,” said LVRG Head Coach Michele “Rose Beef” Dolgos.
In the Hissy Fits favor is the new Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) ranking system that, instead of relying solely on wins and loses, is based on a mathematical formula that factors the each team's record, overall ranking, and the margin of each bout’s final score. Because the Sufferjets are entering the bout as a heavy favorite the Hissy Fits will only need to keep the score close to move up the WFTDA rankings.
When asked about the Hissy Fits odds in the bout, team Captain Lynda “Lin Diesel” Searfass replied, “ I just have to say that we don't have to win but we want to win. We have been working on new strategies and drills and are looking forward to a great bout. Bring them on!”
Tickets for the bout can be bought in advance at the LVRG website, lehighvalleyrollergirls.com, or at the door starting at 5 p.m. the day of the bout. Season tickets are still available from the website.
Independence Family Fun Center is located at 4345 Independence Drive, Schnecksville, PA.
Part of the proceeds from the bout will go the the Macungie Ambulance Corps.
