Emmaus Natives to Host Concert For Teenager With Cancer

Emmaus natives rally to raise money for 15-year-old Alize Marin, a young girl with AML Leukemia.

When 15-year-old Alize Marin became diagnosed in April of 2012 with AML Leukemia, a disease that usually afflicts older men, not children, she turned to her mother, Mari Picart, who is also a cancer survivor, and said, “Mommy, if you can beat it, I can beat it.”  Marin has made good on here vow as she has continued to fight and live life to the fullest even in the face of hardship.  Marin and Picart, who are originally from the Allentown area, were recently forced to relocate to Florida to continue treatment for Marin.  And since June, the family has fallen on hard times.

But, even when bad tidings arise, good ones are not far behind.  Marin and Picart have stayed in touch with friends in the Emmaus area.  And those friends have
undertaken a project to host a large scale music festival in the Emmaus Community Park in the hopes raising money for Marin’s treatment.  Tracy Souders, an Emmaus native and former co-worker of Picart, has rallied people, bands and business together to make the event a reality.  "Alize is such an inspiration, such a figher" says Souders.  "Her belief just makes you want to believe."  Souders and her family have dubbed the concert: “Music For Alize.”  And they hope to raise up to $5,000 in donations.

The event is scheduled for May 11, 2013 at noon.  All ages are welcome, free food will be provided and concert goers can expect to hear music genres ranging from Folk to Hip-Hop, and everything in between.
