Did you Lose Your Peacock in Vera Cruz?

A Vera Cruz woman found a peacock about three days ago and is struggling to find its owner.

A Vera Cruz senior, who prefers to only by identified by her nickname J.J., found a peacock in her yard three days ago and since then has been trying to help her new-found ornately feathered friend find its way home.

J.J. has gone down many avenues to try to find the peacock’s owner, including a post on Craigslist and calls to nearby veterinarians who might have treated the bird and therefore know its owner.

J.J. says that she had managed to make friends with the bird since it first showed up at her house, feeding it and gardening with the peacock, who she identifies as female, at her side.

However, a botched attempt at capturing the bird yesterday morning with the help of a nearby no-kill animal shelter put a bit of a crimp in this new friendship, sending the peacock into the trees near J.J.’s home. The bird was still there Tuesday afternoon when J.J. spoke to Emmaus Patch.

During that conversation J.J. was hopeful that she would be able to lure the peacock back into her good graces with a snack or two.

When that happens, J.J. says she plans to try to get the bird inside a dog crate, a plan she devised with the guidance of the bird specialists at the Lehigh Valley Zoo. If the peacock’s owner cannot be located, the zoo has said that it would be willing to give the bird a home, J.J. says.

J.J. has decided not to disclose her address or any descriptive information about the peacock, to ensure that anyone who steps forward to claim the bird is its actual owner.

To claim the peacock or share information about its owner, please call J.J. at 610-751-3693.
