Emmaus Grad Auvil Named Academic All-American
Junior Bryan Auvil of the Muhlenberg College football team was named a first-team Academic All-American
Junior Bryan Auvil of the Muhlenberg College football team was selected to the Capital One NCAA Division III Academic All-America first team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Auvil, an Emmaus High School graduate, is the ninth first-team Academic All-America selection in Muhlenberg football history – the first since 2009 and the first junior to make the first team since 1989.
A two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, Auvil was the recipient of Conference’s Scholar-Athlete award, presented to a member of the junior or senior class with the highest cumulative GPA on the All-Centennial team. He started every game at right tackle for a Mule offense that averaged 38.3 points per game and set school records for total yards and first downs in a season.

Auvil shared the “Dominator” award from the Muhlenberg coaching staff as offensive MVP of the Wilkes and Johns Hopkins games and was honored with the “Big Play Offense” award for a block he made against Gettysburg. He also was named game captain for the McDaniel game following his performance in the Homecoming win against Franklin & Marshall.
Auvil has made 26 straight starts, during which the Mules are 20-6 and averaging 36.5 points per game.

A chemistry major, Auvil conducted summer research on a possible method for treating Alzheimer’s Disease. He won the Sidney Weikert Award as Muhlenberg’s sophomore athlete of the year.
Auvil helped Muhlenberg to a 9-2 record in 2014. The Mules have earned a postseason berth in each of his three seasons, including an NCAA Tournament appearance this year.
To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on thousands of student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
