Meet Bryan Gruver, Weis Employee and Local Volunteer

Rain or shine, Bryan Gruver works hard to make sure the Emmaus Weiss is always well-maintained and customers are happy.

How long have you worked at Weis Markets in Emmaus?

Gruver has worked at the for the past nine years.

What is your position there, and what are your responsibilities?

Gruver does "a little bit of everything." He maintains the carts, assists with bagging customers' groceries, acts as janitor, and handles shelf stocking.

What do you love most about your job?

"I enjoy meeting and greeting old friends and making new ones." He also particularly enjoys assisting customers who are in need.

What is one of your greatest challenges at work?

"Making sure the elderly customers get to their cars safely."

Is there a funny story you'd like to share about working at Weis?

One time, Gruver had to wear a "Wonder Chicken" costume. That was pretty funny, he said.

What do you like about working and living in Emmaus?

"It is a small community with a lot to offer, and friends stay friends."

Tell us about your involvement in the Emmaus community.

"I belong to the Emmaus Historical Society. I also put my name in to be a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission (for the Borough of Emmaus)."

What do you like to do for fun when you're not at work?

Gruver said he likes to support the high school sports teams. He also enjoys spending time with his cousin and his daughter, as well as with his friends Sarah and Chad.

Tell us something about yourself that others might not know.

"Way back in 1995, I helped with a benefit walk called '10 Days in May.' A group of people walked from Washington D.C. back to the Lehigh Valley. I was unable to walk the whole thing, but I did do the last 10 miles."  

"I also received an award from a magazine called True Grit. My grandmother submitted my name because I pulled her to safety after she fell and was almost hit by a car. I was about four years old at the time."
