These tall orange flowers look exotic because they are. They were brought into the United States from Europe in the late 1800s and admired by gardners. Since then they have been termed an "invasive exotic plant" due to their rapid spread throughout the region.
According to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, these plants are difficult to control because of their "thick tuberous roots."
