EHS Parents and Local Businesses Join Forces for After Prom Party
The event, in its 29th year, is designed to give young people a substance-free post-prom option.

The Emmaus High School prom was Saturday night, and thanks to the efforts of STEP (Support Teens of East Penn), those prom-goers had the option of attending an elaborate after-prom party at Emmaus High School that stretched into the wee hours of Sunday morning.
This blockbuster event, known as the After Ball Party, was held at the high school from 11:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. from May 21 through May 22. It included entertainment, food, prizes and was open to all seniors at .
For prom-goer Shanice Edwards, prom night really was magical. Edwards was the lucky grand prize winner at the After Ball – making her the proud owner of a new car, donated by Kelly Auto Group.

For nearly three decades parents in East Penn have banded together through STEP to sponsor activities that encourage young people to have fund without the use of alcohol or drugs.
Prom night is statistically one of the worst nights for teenage drinking and fatalities, according to Dee Barebo, STEP’s After Ball food committee co-chair, and that's why this event is so important.

Barebo said in an email message to Emmaus Patch about this event: “This community needs to be congratulated for the support that they show these kids. The local business have stepped up and supported this event despite the current economy and political turmoil. Kelly has donated a car…The parents are also to be congratulated. They have donated their money, time, and food.”
This event is funded strictly by donations and run entirely by volunteers. Event chair Cherie Burke says that more than 50 businesses donated to the After Ball party.
