Summer Movie: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

The world's still pretty nuts and this film is still pretty good.

Originally released in 1963, “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” definitely fits the cliché “they don’t make ‘em like the used to.”

Featuring a star-studded cast of yester-year including Jimmy Durante, Milton Burle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Jonathan Winters, and Mickey Rooney, this comedy adventure chronicles the exploits of a group of strangers as they race to find $350,000 in stolen cash based on a dying criminal’s last words.

The film is enjoyable for all ages, and could make the perfect way to while away a rainy summer afternoon inside with the kids or beat the humidity of a sticky summer night with your grownup pals in the comfort of your own AC.

Pay attention to the listings for TV stations that air classic films and it’s possible to find a showing of this cinematic gem. We recorded the film a while back and watched it with the kids. Both boys were equally captivated by the antics of its zany and by today’s standards rather wholesome characters.
