Erie police find stolen SUV, find suspected drugs on man driving it (goerie.com) — An Erie man faces felony drug and receiving stolen property charges after police say they found him driving a stolen SUV and carrying suspected narcotics and paraphernalia on August 22. Officers stopped the 2011 Nissan Rogue at an East Lake Road gas station, linked it to a prior theft on West 19th Street, and had the driver jailed in Erie County Prison without bond pending a September 11 hearing.
2. NEWS POST: SAVE the Date: Erie County Recovery Month (crimewatch.net) — Erie residents are invited to celebrate Erie County Recovery Month on September 18 at the Booker T. Washington Center on Holland Street. Hosted by the county's Office of Drug & Alcohol Abuse and partners, the event will highlight this year's theme, "Recovery is 'Real' – 'Restoring Every Aspect of Life'," and connect families with local support and resources.
3. Erie mayor demotes officer after probe into arrest caught on video (goerie.com) — Erie's mayor has demoted a police sergeant and tightened body-camera rules following an internal probe into the videotaped arrest of Keven Sparks. City leaders say cameras must now stay on throughout shifts and are weighing a citizen-led review process, as community members continue pressing for stronger oversight and rebuilt trust in Erie policing.
4. Kelly questions Postmaster General about status of Erie, Pa., post office (riponadvance.com) — Residents relying on the South Erie Post Office may be without local service until at least November 2026, as federal lawmakers press USPS for clear answers on repairs and reopening. Rep. Mike Kelly and Sen. John Fetterman warn that unsafe building conditions and poor communication are leaving Erie neighbors facing long lines, travel burdens, and uncertainty about essential mail access.
5. Ukrainian Independence Day recognized in Erie (erienewsnow.com) — Erie's Ukrainian community gathered at Erie City Hall to mark 35 years of renewed Ukrainian independence and receive an official proclamation. Local leaders and a Penn State Behrend professor reflected on Ukraine's history, the ongoing war with Russia, and the strong support more than 2,000 Ukrainian residents say they've found in Erie.
