• DEP's Forest City East - Fish & Boat Commission Access Abandoned Mine Reclamation Project Recognized With Federal Office Of Surface Mine Reclamation Appalachian States Award (blogspot.com) — A major mine-reclamation project at Forest City East has turned more than 50 acres of dangerous abandoned mine land along the Lackawanna River into a safer public recreation and boat-access area serving the Forest City community. The award-winning effort restored wetlands, improved water quality, added parking and a non-motorized boat launch, and is drawing more residents and visitors to fish, paddle, and enjoy the outdoors locally.
