Bed And Breakfast Ordinance To Go Before Edgewood Council

Edgewood officials are considering allowing residents to operate bed and breakfasts.

On Monday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m., council will hold a public hearing regarding an ordinance that permits the operation of bed and breakfasts within residential districts.

The matter came before council when a current resident on West Swissvale Avenue was cited for operating a bed and breakfast. Throughout the process, officials noticed the borough code did not address the matter adequately.

Under the proposed ordinance, residents would have to comply with the following restrictions:

-Someone can't stay at the bed and breakfast for more than two weeks at a time.

-Only one to three rooms will be permitted with a maximum of three guests per suite.

-The only meal to be served is breakfast.

-Signage must be attached to the front wall on the B&B.

-Amenities are restricted to anyone who is not an overnight guest.

-One street parking permit will be issued for each suite.

-The B&B owner must obtain an occupancy permit and an annual occupancy inspection will occur.

If approved, the ordinance would go into effect on Aug. 19.

The meeting will be held in Council Chambers, 2 Race St.
