After my last blog about charter schools, I thought I would choose a less controversial topic. Â But I'm sure people would get bored with yet another column about global warming, WMD's or government scandals.
Did you know that it's Curtains for Woodland Hills? Â That's right, the 25th Anniversary Musical for my beloved alma mater is a fabulously funny whodunit comedy with murder, mayhem and love! Â If you are fortunate enough to get the local access channel that features all things Woodland Hills, you probably have seen a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals and a wonderful compilation video with footage from ALL 24 MUSICALS TO DATE! Â Trust me, it's a stroll down memory lane you will be thrilled to take.
When I think of Woodland Hills and the people within it, my mind automatically goes to those who are - - in my mind - - irreplaceable. Â If you are reading this and thinking, "Nobody is irreplaceable," please know that my response to such is an expletive of incredulity that starts with bull and ends with t. Â Any student-athlete would tell you that Mr. George Novak is such a person. Â And any student who has had any experience in the Performing Arts Department at WHHS - - myself gratefully included - - will tell you that Mr. Tom Crone occupies the same rarified air. I heard a nasty rumor that the ticket demand is less than last year's because "people don't know this show." Â Seriously? Â It's a Woodland Hills show. Â Our kids are beyond gifted. Â No matter how old or new the show is, anyone in attendance will think they have been transported to a certain area in NYC. Â If you love performing arts, there is only one thing left to do. Â Order your tickets. Â Call 412-244-1100, ext. 5187. Â I am stocking up on paper bags to provide to people on Monday, May 7th if they haven't seen the show. Â No, they are not for grocery shopping and yes, you may cut out small holes for your eyes.
The show runs April 27th, 28th, May 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Â The evening shows are at 8:00pm and the Saturday matinees are at 1pm. Â The Gene Kelly Awards will be on Saturday, May 26th at the Benedum. Â Am I jinxing us? Â NO! Â My daugher already has her outfit picked out.
