Dating 101: Relationship Tip #2—Adjusting Your Outlook
Please join in the dialogue about love and dating. To explore why we should be your business partner in love, please contact me on the Designing Love, Inc. website at www.designingloveinc.com.

At times, we all need to see things with a different pair of eyes. Adjusting your outlook in the relationship can give you the perspective that you need to be romantic.
- Never stop the romance. The saying that one should continue to do the same things they did to capture one’s heart has its validity. I understand that life circumstances and the day-to-day grind can get in the way of you spending time together. However, one should always be able to make time to at least verbally compliment the love of your life. Go back to your first dating spot. Or, take the time to recreate your first date at home.
- Focus on the positives. Far too many times, couples focus on what their partner is doing wrong in the relationship instead of what they are doing to makes us feel special. Those positive highs are the feelings that should be treasured and celebrated consistently. When praise is given naturally, the rewards for both individuals are so much sweeter. And, you won’t have to ask for those little romantic moments to happen, because your partner will look for ways to celebrate you with confidence.
- Are you on the same team? Each couple usually has its own interpersonal dynamic that plays out in how one contributes to the relationship. Develop an ongoing partnership until you know you are on the same team about what you are bringing to your commitment. No one wishes to carry the burden of sustaining love alone.
Your outlook on your relationship carries a lot of weight. At times, even the subconscious negative perceptions of how we see our loved one comes to the surface. You alone have the power to give your love outlook a makeover. If you have a “adjust your outlook” moment to share, please comment. I will discuss our final tip next week. Be ready for a special treat. Stay tuned!
