How Do You Know....When You are Truly Living Your Values and Faith?

The Rev. Dr. Patricia D. Brown, Spiritual Director of Spiritworks Studio, is reminded of other people's sacredness and to live out of a sense of their worth as unique persons of God.

Most days I strive to be a principle-centered individual working out of high morals and values.

I try to live according to my religious upbringing, adhering to the rules and beliefs I was taught. But, if the truth be told (and I promised it would be), there are days when I almost lose my faith and it takes everything I have to hang on to a sliver of godliness. The last thing I want to be is holy and loving! I am as hard on other people as I am on myself. My spirit is not gentle but harsh and judging.

Time and time again I've had to stop in my tracks, step away, and regain a sense of who I am. I must pause to remind myself what is of primary importance for my own life and my relationships with others. It is not an easy task.

This confession might surprise many of you since I am a person who volunteers at Spiritworks. Surely, if anywhere, the sacred space of the Spiritworks Studio is the place where peace and love abounds!

Thank you for forgiving me time and again for my failings as I learn, day by day, to live reverently, spiritually-minded, in touch with the mysteries of life... As I strive to walk in holiness with a loving attitude... As I lean toward myself and others with a gentle spirit rather than a spirit of judgment. For I know that as I am open to the Spirit that I am able to connect with other people's sacredness and operate out of a sense of their worth as unique persons of God.
