Renowned pediatrician Dr. Heidi Feldman to present ideas on redesigning healthcare for children with disabilities
Dr. Feldman will present "Redesigning Health Care for Children with Disabilities: Strengthening Inclusion, Contribution and Health"
The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University will host renowned pediatrician Dr. Heidi M. Feldman of Stanford University School of Medicine, in partnership with Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Pittsburgh (JF&CS), ACHIEVA, PEAL Center and Consumer Health Coalition. Dr. Feldman will present “Redesigning Health Care for Children with Disabilities: Strengthening Inclusion, Contribution and Health,” on Wednesday, October 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Rodef Shalom (4905 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, 15213).
Going far beyond the traditional model of treating and reducing symptoms, Dr. Feldman will offer families of children with disabilities as well as health care and human service professionals a big-picture blueprint for improving the lives of children with disabilities and helping them participate fully in family and community life.
Dr. Feldman’s presentation will address the key priorities that improve children’s lives: inclusion in community life, contribution to society and health and well-being. She will discuss the challenges of delivering health care to children with disabilities including techniques to collaborate on comprehensive, integrated care plans with parents and other professionals.

Dr. Feldman holds the Ballinger-Swindells Endowed Professorship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and serves as the Medical Director of the Mary L Johnson Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Clinical Programs at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She was on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, worked at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and served as director of both the LEND Pittsburgh and of the Down Syndrome Center, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Parents and advocates Nina Butler and Aurelia Carter-Scott invite all who what to learn a fresh and vital approach to health care for children with disabilities. A dessert reception will follow Dr. Feldman’s presentation.
