Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry to benefit from "The Art of Food" event in Squirrel Hill
"The Art of Food," presented by the Squirrel Hill Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, will be held on Thursday, June 4

“The Art of Food,” an event presented by the Squirrel Hill Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, will be held on Thursday, June 4, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. in Squirrel Hill (2025 Wightman Street, 15217). All proceeds from the event will benefit the Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry (SHCFP), and attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate as well.
The evening’s highlight will be a group exhibition of The Pittsburgh 10, which features new works by artists Zivi Aviraz, Lila Hirsch-Brody, Joel Kranich, Lilli Nieland, Jane Ogren, Phiris (Kathy) Sickels, David Sparks, Susan Sparks, Dirk Vandenberg and Francine Vandenberg. The Pittsburgh 10 takes its name from the Philadelphia Ten, a group of women artists from the Philadelphia area that exhibited together between 1927 and 1945. At the time, this was the first significant step toward integrating women into the art world.
This unique group of artists will celebrate their artistic diversity and friendship in this benefit Pop-up exhibition, and attendees will get the opportunity to talk with the artists about their work. The evening will also feature food and wine pairings, additional art on exhibit and available for sale, live entertainment and raffle prizes.

“We’re grateful that the Squirrel Hill Center for Rehabilitation and Healing has chosen SHCFP as the beneficiary of this unique and exciting event,” said Matthew Bolton, SHCFP director. “‘Our goal is to ensure food security for all, and we can only fully do so with the support of our community members.”
Annually, SHCFP serves 1,700 individuals and families from the 15217 ZIP code. In addition to meeting the nutritional needs of those who are food-insecure in the Squirrel Hill and Greenfield area, SHCFP meets the needs of individuals and families who keep kosher homes outside of the 15217 zip code area and qualify for food assistance, as well as those with gluten-free needs or those who live in surrounding communities and are in need of emergency food assistance. SHCFP also works to provide clients with additional social services related to critical needs, unemployment and more, to break the cycle of poverty and ensure self-sufficiency is possible.
