As JF&CS strives to provide the community with comprehensive services, support and help every day, a multitude of programs and workshops are being offered this month for job seekers, families, community members and more.

Living & Learning: Raising a child with special needs

This Living & Learning session will be a discussion-based program intended to provide insights into the unique rewards and challenges of raising a child with special needs. Presenters JoAnn White, Director of Family Hope Connection, the adoption program of JF&CS, and Linda Marino, Critical Resources Coordinator at JF&CS, will talk about ways to develop sensitivities around a child’s specific concerns. They will also touch on the systems that families of children with special needs–and the members of the community who support them–may encounter as they strive to provide the best care for the child.

WorkAble Career Fair

WorkAble, a partnership of the Career Development Center of JF&CS, North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) and South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM), will hold a fall career fair for adults throughout the region on April 16.

The upcoming career fair will include employers from Allegheny Health Network, Eat’n Park, Goodwill, St. Clair Hospital, University of Pittsburgh, UPMC and many others.

JFilm Festival

JF&CS is a proud supporter of this year’s JFilm Festival! The 22nd annual JFilm Festival highlights independent films from around the world featuring Pittsburgh premieres of dramas, comedies and biopics about Theodore Bikel and Isaac Bashevis Singer. The festival opens with an award-winning German film “The Last Mentsch” and will welcome several filmmakers including Nancy Spielberg, producer of “Above and Beyond.”

Housing Options for Individuals with Disabilities and/or Special Needs

Affordable housing options for individuals with disabilities and/or special needs is the topic of an upcoming program co-presented by JF&CS and Jewish Residential Services (JRS) as part of the educational series AIM: Support for Families of Individuals with Special Needs.

Chuck Keenan, Housing Coordinator for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS), will elaborate on affordable housing options, including Section 8, subsidized housing, low-income housing tax credits and homeless resources for people experiencing a housing crisis.

Living & Learning: Finding Your Way as an Interfaith Family

Navigating the waters of being an interfaith family can present a number of challenges. This Living & Learning session will provide an informal conversation about the various issues that can emerge in fostering a Jewish identity in families from differing religious traditions. Learn how to prioritize aspects of religious practice, decide on celebrating holidays and handle complaints from extended family members who may disagree with your approach. We encourage you to bring your specific concerns to the table as well.
