Welcome back, Wallpaper!

As the saying goes, “everything old is new again”, and here comes wallpaper; back with a big personality.  I am currently designing two powder rooms that will feature bold, colorful wallpaper.  I’m so excited, yet cautious, since wallpaper is something that I typically remove, not install.

I’m excited because of all the fabulous offerings out there today; it’s a designer’s dream.  There’s beautifully crafted handmade papers with brilliant patterns, grass cloth is any color you can dream up, and then just the subtle, yet tasteful, tone-on-tone patterns.  I’m starting small with the powder rooms because clients have yet to re-embrace this new, old design concept.

Convincing my two special clients to go wallpaper was easy after I showed them samples of the selections I had in mind.  One client is getting pastel parrots, yes, parrots, on a solid black background, featured above Benjamin Moore Decorators White painted paneling.  The design is classic traditional with a quirky twist.  She is also the proud owner of a 27 year-old parrot.  So, in design, we like to give a nod to our wonderful clients.

My other client is at the opposite end of the spectrum with a raspberry purple, gilded graphic; very modern, very hip, very now.   It will line the walls floor to ceiling.  My client smiles when she looks at this selection.  It’s a bold, yet perfect move.
