1. James C. Roach 1943-2026 (fcfreepresspa.com) — Longtime Gettysburg resident James C. Roach, a former chief of interpretation at Eisenhower National Historic Site and Gettysburg National Military Park, has died at 82. He leaves a legacy of service through the National Park Service, Adams County Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Gettysburg, and several local historical and civic organizations, with services Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church.
2. Adams County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame announces 2026 inductees (communitymedia.net) — Gettysburg-area sports fans are invited to celebrate the 2026 Adams County Chapter Sports Hall of Fame inductees at a November 7 dinner on the Gettysburg College campus. For $38, residents can reserve seats by mail before the October 30 deadline and honor standout local athletes from Delone Catholic, New Oxford, Biglerville, and Bermudian Springs.
3. All Aboard the Gettysburg Railway Apple Harvest Trains (macaronikid.com) — Residents can hop aboard the Gettysburg Railway Apple Harvest Trains departing downtown Gettysburg at 12:30 p.m. on October 3–4 and 10–11 for a foliage-filled ride through Adams County. You'll enjoy fall scenery, learn about the area's fruit-growing history, and even receive complimentary local apples while supplies last, but seats are expected to sell quickly.
4. National Apple Harvest Festival (macaronikid.com) — Just a short drive from Gettysburg, the National Apple Harvest Festival returns to South Mountain Fairgrounds on October 3–4 and 10–11 with apples, crafts, hayrides, and live entertainment. Adams County families can enjoy hundreds of vendors, kids' activities, orchard tours, and plenty of fall food, with parking and shuttle service included in admission.
