1. $1.3 Billion 83 South Bridge Replacement Project in Harrisburg Moves Toward 2027 Start (pennwatch.org) — A $1.3 billion project to replace I-83's John Harris Memorial "South Bridge" between downtown Harrisburg and Cumberland County is moving toward a January 2027 construction start, promising years of traffic disruption. PennDOT says the overhaul, backed by a $500 million federal grant, will rebuild key interchanges and viaducts to protect a crucial commuter and freight corridor.
2. USDA expands disaster designation for Pa. fruit farms affected by spring freeze (erienewsnow.com) — From Harrisburg, state officials announced that USDA has expanded its disaster declaration to cover 58 Pennsylvania counties hit by a devastating late-April freeze, unlocking low-interest federal loans for fruit growers. The Shapiro administration also secured $10 million in state grant funding and is pushing for broader crop insurance and flexible federal relief, with applications for state grants now open.
3. Christian school looks to grow into newly renovated Cumberland County building (pennlive.com) — West Shore Christian Academy, part of the Christian School Association of Greater Harrisburg, is moving its high school into a renovated 91,000-square-foot building in Upper Allen Township near Mechanicsburg. The new campus, supported by state grants, will boost enrollment capacity, add specialized classrooms and labs, and eventually include a gym and athletic fields for students from the Greater Harrisburg area.
4. Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball, Pick 2 Day results for Aug. 22, 2026 (ydr.com) — If you bought a Pennsylvania Lottery ticket in Harrisburg or anywhere in the state, yesterday's Powerball and Pick games numbers are now in, along with how to claim winnings. Smaller prizes can be handled at retailers, while larger wins must be mailed to the Harrisburg claims address or processed through regional offices with proper forms.
5. PA Game Commission, Fish and Boat Commission Seek Public Input on New Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan (gantnews.com) — State wildlife officials based in Harrisburg are asking residents to comment on a draft 2025–2035 Pennsylvania Wildlife Action Plan that guides conservation funding and priorities. Through September 19, Pennsylvanians can review the proposal online and weigh in on protections for 858 at-risk species and their habitats statewide.
